Finding the best balance between sustainability and performance can be tricky because of the vast differences in performance required for each application. A supplier with expertise in both plastic materials and design can provide valuable guidance. Many different factors can enhance or detract from the sustainability and safety of plastic products. When selecting materials, it is necessary to evaluate a resin’s properties, such as its density; use of additives and ability to be down-gauged; its recyclability/compostability; and the manufacturing method that will be used.
Working with Spartech can help achieve the optimal balance between performance and sustainability. Our Royalite® G50, Ultros™ Renu, and Ultros™ 90 achieved SCS Recycled Content certification renewal demonstrating greater than 50% Recycled Content. SCS Global Services (SCS), a global leader in independent certification and verification of environmental sustainability and stewardship, conducted the renewal audit at the company’s Greenville, Ohio location.
The certified products listed above use pre-consumer recycled PETG.: Royalite® G50, an environmentally friendly building and construction rated sheet that contains no halogens or BPA chemicals; Ultros™ Renu PETG co-polyester sheet, featuring outstanding thermoforming and processing characteristics for fabricators and downstream processors; and Ultros™ 90, recycled PETG sheet used in applications where aesthetics are less critical but the important features of PETG are needed.
These products conform to the SCS Recycled Content Standard V7, utilizing at least 50 percent pre-consumer, recycled content. The SCS Recycled Content certifications allow architects, designers, and other end-users the opportunity to contribute to credits in the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED® Green Building Rating System.
Spartech is a member of The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR), an international trade association representing the plastics recycling industry and dedicated to environmentally sustainable product solutions. APR promotes the plastics recycling industry by providing leadership for long-term industry growth and vitality, including developing protocols for packaging design for greater recyclability, improving the quality of postconsumer plastics entering the environment, and fostering a strong interface with end-user markets. The membership, gives Spartech opportunities to interact and network with over 300 like-minded organizations focused on recycling and sustainability initiatives, help Spartech to assist our customers in gaining a broader understanding of sustainability challenges that companies and industries are facing and develop custom recyclable-forward plastics products and solutions to meet these needs.
