Aseptic Packaging

dairy creamers using aseptic packaging
Shelf stable single serve dairy creamers require aseptic packaging ideally suited for Spartech's high barrier sheet.

Popularized in the form of single serve drink boxes for children's fruit juices, Aseptic packaging is now being utilized to package a wide variety of food products.

Through its co-extrusion process that can produce sheet with up to 9 layers, Spartech can combine different plastic materials and protective films to create high barrier sheet products used in the aseptic packaging process. Different plastic materials are extruded along with barrier materials like EVOH or Saran to create the functional packages.

In the aseptic packaging process, a sterilized food product is placed in a sterilized package within a completely hygienic environment. The filled packages are sealed and capable of being stored at room temperature without preservatives for long periods of time. With equipment that flash heats and cools the product, the energy use and loss of nutrients that usually accompanies standard sterilization processes is reduced. As such, aseptically packaged foods tend to hold more of their taste and nutritional value.

Common applications for Spartech aseptic packaging include:

  • Single serve juice cups
  • Soups and broths
  • Syrup containers
  • Juice and drink concentrates
  • Non-dairy creamers
  • Liquid eggs
  • Specialty beverages
  • Tomato sauce
