Portage PlantAs part of the ISO 14001 program for the Portage Wisconsin facility, Solid Waste disposal was a target for improvement in 2004. The facility committed to promote and improve reduction, reuse and recycling methodologies to minimize waste disposed to the landfill. To provide a precise goal or vision for all employees, the management team calculated the total waste disposed in 2003 as 436.1 tons. The management team agreed that a 25% reduction in total disposal for 2004 was achievable by targeting all recyclable commodities (i.e. cardboard, paper, aluminum, etc.) with a special emphasis on plastic raw materials that were lost in process or unfit to convert into product. Through the involvement of all employees, the program was a great success. Total disposal for 2004 was 148.63 tons yielding a 66% reduction over 2003. The commitment and dedication of all Spartech Portage employees allowed the team to far exceed expectations!! |
