Minimize Impact on the Environment
We at Spartech realize that a major global environmental concern is the fact that a tremendous amount of harmful green-house gases are filling our atmosphere every day. To help combat this, we have instituted several programs in our own facilities to cut down on GHG emissions and have developed products that are an alternative to materials such as fiberglass, gel coatings, paints, and PVC.
Our growing family of sustainable/degradable products also help to minimize the impact on our environment by coming from a renewable resource and/or by the fact that they are biodegradable or compostable.
We have also developed a number of materials to meet and exceed various governmental directives and regulations such as RoHS, WEEE, and CARB, and that help end-products to qualify for special "green" funding such as the United States Green Building Council's LEED certification.

Paint/Gel Coat Substitutes
Painting and gel coat spray up contribute to ozone depletion through emitting VOC's into the air. Spartech has developed a series of alloy plastics that are designed to replace paint and gel coat surfaces. These advanced materials eliminate the harmful VOC's and help our customers comply with the regulatory standards of the EPA and other State environmental agencies.
-
Fiberglass Substitutes
Fiberglass materials are widely used to manufacture parts for several transportation sectors. Spartech engineers have looked at these energy sensitive applications in order to develop lower weight alloy plastics for thermoforming. By utilizing these alloys in thermoformed parts we can reduce over all part weight up to 20% and help decrease the weight of vehicles. Lower vehicle weight yields improved gas mileage and lower fuel consumption and the advanced materials also eliminate the VOC's emitted during the fiberglass production process.
-
PVC Substitutes
Reviews regarding the use of PVC in various products is still mixed, but some countries like Japan have banned the use of PVC in many consumer products. To help address these concerns and uncertainties, Spartech has developed various alternative materials with similar and even improved performance characteristics to PVC.

Renewable & Biodegradable Materials
Spartech is working with advanced materials like NatureWorks® PLA to develop sheet products made from renewable resources that are also biodegradable through industrial composting.
-
Compliance
Working to achieve compliance with programs like the Leadership in Energy & Efficient Design, Spartech is engaged in a number of programs to help the environment.
