Donora, Pennsylvania

In February 2005, Spartech Polycom Donora 1 Plant was named a member to the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) National Environmental Performance Track (NEPT). The Performance Track rewards facilities that voluntarily exceed regulatory requirements ("Beyond Compliance"), implement systems for improving environmental management, work with their communities and set a three-year goal for improvement in environmental performance. The Donora 1 facility has initially targeted four environmental improvement goals. These goals include: Reducing overall landfill waste by 5%, reducing cardboard waste by 2%, replacing all of the plant fluorescent bulbs with energy efficient "ecobulbs", and upon replacement of motors purchasing "E" rated motors if feasible. Within the first year of the landfill reduction goal, they have surpassed the 5% reduction effort and continue to make improvement with a waste reduction initiative. Additionally, they have re-lamped all fluorescent bulbs to the energy efficient "ecobulbs".
