Donora 1 ISO 14001 Program
On November 6, 2001, Spartech Polycom Donora 1 Plant became the first plant in the company to achieve ISO 14001: 1996 Standard certification. The Cross Functional Team (CFT) (pictured at right) identified plant specific environmental aspects and impacts based upon the plant processes. Objectives and targets were then determined for the significant aspects and impacts (significance determined using a corporate rating system procedure). Significant aspects in which the Donora 1 plant has set specific goals over the last several years include: a reduction of water usage, reduction of landfilled solid waste, reduction of hazardous waste generation, and improving the plant’s recycling program. In addition to achieving the specific targets listed above, the plant has continued to develop plant level procedures and practices to ensure conformance with all clauses of the ISO 14001 Standard. This includes a recommendation by our 3rd party auditor to upgrade the plant’s certification to the revised I SO 14001: 2004 Standard.
